NICE TO MEET YOU
I’m Ray Kenner, CPA
I’m a California-licensed Certified Public Accountant—formally licensed in 2020—who has spent the last decade turning complex tax rules into clear, actionable strategies for small-business owners. After earning my B.S. in Business (Accounting) from San José State University in 2014, I began my career at Hutchinson & Bloodgood, LLP in Watsonville, where I handled everything from financial-statement audits to individual and business tax returns. Those early years confirmed two things: I love the puzzle of tax planning, and I’m at my best when I’m helping real people keep more of what they earn.
My next stop was Seghetti Waxler in Soquel, a mid-sized firm known for its deep tax expertise. There I sharpened my technical skills, managed client relationships, and learned how proactive planning can change the entire trajectory of a business. After five busy tax seasons I launched Kenner Accounting to deliver that same high-touch guidance in a modern, virtual firm.
Why I Serve Mental-Health Professionals
My partner, Rebecca Zalona, LCSW (Becca), runs her own therapy practice, which means our dinner-table conversations often revolve around CPT codes, insurance reimbursements, and the balancing act of caring for clients while running a business. Helping Becca with her books and tax strategy led to referrals from her colleagues, and before long I was working exclusively with therapists, psychologists, and other mental-health clinicians.
Over the past four years I’ve developed a system tailored to private practices: streamlined bookkeeping, payroll that fits the ebb-and-flow of session revenue, and tax planning that captures every deduction—from licensure fees to continuing-education costs. Today, Kenner Accounting is a full-service finance partner for mental-health professionals who want to spend more time helping clients and less time wrestling with QuickBooks and the IRS.
When you work with me, you get a CPA who speaks your language, understands the realities of therapy work, and delivers clear advice you can act on right away.
